A Prayer of D. Bonhoeffer

O God, Early in the morning do I cry unto Thee.
Help me to pray
And to think only of Thee.
I cannot pray alone.
In me there is darkness,
But with Thee, there is light.
I am lonely, but Thou leavest me not.
I am restless, but with Thee there is peace.
In me, there is bitterness, but with Thee there is patience;
Thy ways are past understanding but
Thou knowest the way for me.

Reading this quote on your blog encourages me to pray for you to find a Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Now that's a "ka-pow!" couple.

All I can say is may it be so.

Because he is one of my heroes and his prayer so articulated what was in my heart, though I didn't realize it until I read it.

mmmm, yeah, its a strange struggle to seek perfection to please Him while also having to rely on Him in our ability to seek. Though, He has really been changing my definition of perfection lately. Jesus prayed that we would be one with the Father as he is. Jesus felt alone, darkness, and restless. i wonder if the loneliness ever leaves, or even if it's supposed to... what does being one with the Father actually feel like?
Mirror dimly, mirror dimly.

i'm gona hafta read some of this Bonhoeffer guys stuff!

I totally agree. And also walking in a son/daughtership mentality while still seeking to be in complete submission to Him, as a bondslave.

There was no one who lived as Jesus. He in some ways was really alone in his calling, in his lifestyle, except for his intimacy with the father. His friends wouldn't even draw near to him in his darkest moments and he was constantly misunderstood by everyone.

Thanks for sharing, J money! I have Bonhoeffer's bio if you want to borrow it.
